Newborn Screening Test
Newborn screening are the tests that are performed to identify some diseases that can be treated in early time when detected. These diseases do not show any symptoms in the first months of life and it cant be recognized in advance so it may cause serious damage to the baby. When the diagnosis is made, preventive treatment can be applied and a complete recovery can be achieved. In the Newborn service, blood screening and hearing tests are performed for each newborn.
Screening tests should be done after the baby has filled 72 hours. If the baby is born with a normal birth and will be discharged within a day or two a blood sample is taken during the control examination in the first week. For these tests, a few drops of blood from the heel are sufficient.
